So what is the CompTIA Porject+ Certification? Here is a quick summary I’ve pulled off CompTIA’s website.

“CompTIA Project+ is a globally recognized project management certification that provides validation of fundamental project management skills. It covers the entire project life cycle from initiation and planning through execution, acceptance, support and closure. Unlike some project management certifications, CompTIA Project+ can be acquired in a quick and cost-effective manner. There are no prerequisites, and candidates are not required to submit an application or complete additional hours of continuing education.

CompTIA Project+ gives project managers the skills necessary to complete projects on time and within budget, and creates a common project management language among project team members.”

  • A Very interesting article I read over at brainbuzz.com

“CompTIA’s Project+ (2003) certification is meant for those professionals who are on their way to becoming skilled project managers. The Project+ 2001, exam code PK0–001, was transferred from the Gartner Institute to CompTIA in February 2001. It has since been upgraded in November 2003. In terms of this upgrade: “The revised exam explores in greater detail the candidate’s familiarity of project management tools, such as schedulers, spreadsheets, and databases. The exam also takes the whole issue of getting people to make decisions in a timely manner. So many times on projects, the project manager is hindered by key people who do not make timely decisions. Now the Project+ certified professional will have to demonstrate a knowledge and awareness of keeping an issues log in order to monitor and close issues and how to help people reach decisions. This was not covered in the 2001 exam.” Project+ is a mid-level, vendor-neutral certification which is a suitable complement to any technology focused certifications. It is a core requirement for the Novell MCNE certification. There are no prerequisites for this certification, although some project management experience would be beneficial. This certification is well suited to project managers. The Project+ designation is achieved by passing one conventional format exam that covers “business practices, interpersonal skills and project management processes, in addition to the ability to effectively plan, implement and complete projects on time and within your budget.” The Project+ certification thus demonstrates the candidate’s ability to effectively manage projects. Moreover, holding this certification will help the candidate achieve employment with numerous companies that preferentially hire or require this certification. Like other CompTIA offerings, once a person achieves the Project+, the certification will not expire.”
